Time for a new mat for your premises but don’t know what’s the best solution for your requirements?
Before you consider buying again it’s important to remember that different mat materials will provide you with a different experience or solution. Here is a quick run through of some popular options that will help you to decide what’s the best solution for your premises.
Aluminium Mats
By far the most popular mats for retail and large footfall areas and with good reason. Aluminium is exactly what you get on the tin as the ad says, it’s hard working, durable and a great matting solution for areas that have heavy footfall, or lots of wheeled traffic making it one of our most popular flooring solutions for shopping centres and retail parks in particular. Some other good news on aluminium is that it can last for decades and that inserts on the mat can be replaced individually – making it a very cost effective solution and often giving the mats a ten year or more shelf life. Available with branded logos or without, aluminium is a great durable, affordable solution for any busy commercial area.
Here is a recent example of an aluminium mat we did for the Whitewater Shopping Centre in Newbridge.

Modular mats
Modular Mats area great practical option for commercial areas such as airports, train stations and other commercial areas where there are high levels of footfall and lots of wheeled luggage! Made of plastic they are mat tiles with a textile insert and because they are individual tiles they are very easy to replace and a great option for large scale areas where it might be expensive and wasteful to replace a whole floor when only a certain area needs to be replaced. Modular mats come with a five year guarantee, are great for absorbing water and are a really competitively priced flooring solution for large scale commercial areas.
Here is an example of a modular mat we supplied for Irish Rail.
Barrier Mats
Barrier mats are mats that look like carpets, often you’ll see them inside or outside retail shops with logos on them. They are an inexpensive option, are very water resistant and can take a lot of dirt and grime which is a real plus. A popular option too for businesses who want a flooring solution with branding or a logo, these mats come with guarantee options of up to five years. With a quick turnaround, these mats are an inexpensive option to cover large areas and offer a really professional and durable matting solution.
