The Gold Standard for Floor Slip Testing
The pendulum test has measured slip resistance of floors worldwide since the 1940s. It is the preferred method of the Irish Health and Safety Authority and UK Health and Safety Executive because it is accurate, portable, and replicates real-world conditions.
Under Section 19 of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, employers must carry out and record a Risk Assessment. A certified PTV report is your documented evidence of compliance. Without it, you carry unmanaged, undocumented liability.
Who This Is For?
Every Sector With Pedestrian Footfall
If people walk on your floors, you carry a duty of care. These sectors face the greatest risk exposure.
Retail & Hospitality
High footfall and wet entrances create constant risk. One incident triggers claims and regulatory scrutiny.
Healthcare & Education
Vulnerable users and stringent duty of care obligations require regular cleaning and testing regimes.
Commercial Offices
Polished lobby floors are common hazard zones. Documented PTV reports ensure employer liability is managed.
Industrial & Pharma
Contamination from oils and liquids makes floor testing a critical part of workplace safety compliance.
Public Sector
Leisure centres and civic buildings face high pedestrian volumes and great legal exposure to slip claims.
Property Management
Annual audits with PTV reports protect your portfolio and provide documented proof for insurance providers.

Understanding Results
What Your PTV Score Means ?
| PTV Value | Slip Potential | Chance of Slip |
|---|---|---|
| 36+ | LOW RISK | 1 in 1,000,000 |
| 34 | MODERATE | 1 in 100,000 |
| 29 | MODERATE | 1 in 10,000 |
| 27 | MODERATE | 1 in 200 |
| 24 | HIGH RISK | 1 in 20 |
| 20 | VERY HIGH | 1 in 2 |
Low risk (PTV 36+)
A PTV of 36 or above means only 1 in 1,000,000 people will change how they walk on that surface. This is the target threshold for all public areas.
High risk (PTV 24 or below)
A PTV of 24 causes 1 in 20 people to alter their gait. This represents a serious, actionable safety issue requiring immediate remediation.
Testing conditions
Testing is conducted in three directions: horizontal, vertical and diagonal. Eight swings are taken per direction. The median result is your PTV. Both dry and wet conditions are assessed.
Your Legal Obligations Under Irish Law
Under Section 19 of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, employers and facility managers must carry out and record a Risk Assessment. A certified PTV report is your documented evidence of compliance. Without it, you carry unmanaged, undocumented liability.
If Your Floor Fails
Treatment & Remediation Options
A failing PTV does not mean replacing your floor. We provide a clear treatment pathway and retest after application to confirm uplift.
Anti-Slip Treatments
Invisible chemical applications that increase surface friction without changing the look of your tiles.
Micro-Etching
Specialized deep-pore cleaning that creates a microscopic tread on stone and ceramic surfaces.
Deep Floor Scrubbing
Removal of grease and biofilm build-up that often causes floors to fail safety tests.
